Mr. Ashwin Viswanathan Kannan
Research Scientist, Amazon, USA
Cognitive Pattern Recognition using Spiking Nets
In this talk, we will examine cognitive approaches to understanding pattern recognition problems. We will specifically explore the third-generation neural networks (i.e., Spiking Nets) and their architectural similarity to the human brain in understanding patterns to solve computation problems in recognition and prediction. Using practical examples, the talk will illustrate cognitive functions like memory formation and how artificial neural networks adapt to varied patterns found in real-world datasets.
Biography
Ashwin is a research scientist at Amazon working on understanding causal effects that influence long-term customer purchase behavior. He specializes in building causal and forecasting models leveraging high-dimensional datasets. Prior to joining Amazon, Ashwin did his PhD in computer science at Oklahoma State University under Dr. Johnson Thomas. His primary research interests are in the fields of machine learning and bio-inspired decision-making models using spiking neural networks (SNN).
Mr. Abhimanyu Mukerji
Palo Alto, California, United States
Machine Learning in Causal Inference
This talk will provide an overview of the problem of causal inference and current approaches to address it. We will discuss the applications of machine learning and deep learning to this problem space, with examples from the technology sector. We will review the challenges involved in validating solutions and some tests that can be performed to build confidence in causal results. We will also touch upon model implementation at scale.
Biography
Abhimanyu is an Economist at Amazon working on dynamic causal models and causal machine learning. His prior research has used methods from machine learning, deep learning and natural language processing combined with econometric approaches to study problems in applied microeconomics and empirical corporate finance. He holds a PhD in financial economics from Stanford University.
